The Start of an Amazing Adventure! by Sophia Jesteen

Hi Everyone!
My name is Sophia Jesteen, I’m a rising junior at Julia R. Masterman (home to the Blue Dragons, roar!). I love research and I found that with my interest in STEM, TRIP is the perfect opportunity to stimulate both interests. I love all aspects of lab work, even the writing process. I’m also a huge fan of observational/experimental science and with TRIP being such an amazing opportunity to put our own hypotheses to the test, this program is so exciting to me! I’m not sure exactly what I want to pursue in the future, but I believe after this experience I will have a strong inclination as to what it may be. In research science, I’m hoping to explore all the things I felt limited to exploring during my labs at school.

Some activities that I participate in at school include Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Science Olympiad, and ACapella singing. I really enjoy running and am a huge fan of mystery shows, including Elementary. Fun fact about me, I have a strange love for organization, so you’ll usually catch me with highlighters and a planner. I live in Northeast Philly, close to Fox Chase, but I spend a lot of time in the city, largely contributed to the fact my school is in the city. During the school year, I wake up at 5 AM, catch a regional rail train by 6, take a bus from SEPTA Suburban Station to school, and do the opposite to get home around 6-7. I’ve been doing this since the fifth grade, so it’s become second nature to travel the city.
I’m so excited to be apart of TRIP and I can’t wait to discover so much more this summer!
