TRIP@WTHS'21 Session A
Shreya HarikrishnanShreya Harikrishnan joined TRIP@WTHS’21 as a junior at North Penn High School. Shreya is actively involved in music, has a passion for neuroscience, and loves to travel. Additionally, she serves as a board member on a nonprofit organization (KAFO) that supports a rural village in West Africa. Her joint interest in neuroscience and music led her to test the effects of classical music on fly memory after a traumatic brain injury for her TRIP project. She aims to find out if her results can show the possibilities of music being used as a therapy to rejuvenate the deactivated senses.

Aarushi JainAarushi Jain joined TRIP as a junior from Downingtown STEM Academy in 2020 and is returning as a senior. Aarushi loves reading fiction, singing, traveling, and Thai food. She will be attending the University of Pennsylvania this fall in their Life Sciences and Management Program with a focus in neuroscience. For her TRIP project, she tested whether ginger can counteract the negative impact of sugar on anxiety.

Cade JinCade Jin joined TRIP@WTHS’21 as a junior at CB South. While he was born in Kansas, he lived in China for two years until he was 2 and a half years old and has lived in Pennsylvania ever since. Cade enjoys camping and casually playing games with friends. He loves exploring the infinite possibilities that math and science bring and applied to TRIP seeking an exciting experience that his school wouldn’t be able to provide. For his TRIP project, he tested the behavioral and developmental impacts of exposing developing fruit flies to 12-hour cycles of blue light.

Katherine LiKatherine Li joined TRIP@WTHS’21 as a junior at Garnet Valley High School. Katherine enjoys hiking with her family, gardening in her backyard, and listening to music. She also likes chemistry, math, and playing tennis. For her TRIP project, she tested the impact of altering the microbiome on the glucose levels of flies that were fed a high-sugar diet.

Sruthi MalineniSruthi Malineni joined TRIP as a junior at Garnet Valley High School. Sruthi enjoys baking, playing the flute in marching band, and reading scientific articles. She started a STEM tutoring website to share her interest for STEM subjects with other students. For her TRIP project, she tested the effects of UV radiation and Vitamin E on the fertility and phenotype of individuals.

Mason MatichMason Matich joined TRIP@WTHS’21 as a sophomore at CB High School East. Mason likes to read, write short stories, and hang out with his friends. He has participated in science fairs since 2019. For his TRIP project, he tested the impact of lead on the gut microbiome and if iron and/or vitamin C could restore it.

Zlata SemianiukZ Semianiuk joined TRIP as a senior at William Tennent High School. Z moved to the U.S. from Belarus at the age of 14. They are aspiring to be an artist, while also being deeply fascinated with politology and science of human behaviors. For their project, Z focused on the effects of the commonly used pesticide 2,4-D on development and fertility.

Nadija SulcajNadija Sulcaj joined TRIP@WTHS’21 as a junior at Masterman highschool. In her free time, Nadija can be found drawing, learning new songs on the guitar or bass, or hanging out with her friends. Her favorite activity at school is competing in Science Olympiad, with her favorite events being Astronomy and Chemistry Lab. For her TRIP project, Nadija tested the impact of blue light on learning in developing brains.

Evelyn ThomasEvelyn Thomas joined TRIP as a sophomore at North Penn High School and returned to finish her project this year as a junior. She loves to read fiction books, watch TV (especially Criminal Minds), and sing. Evelyn’s favorite subject in school is chemistry and she hopes to pursue a career in medicine in the future. For her TRIP project, Evelyn decided to explore the impact of chia seeds and cortisol on weight and activity in adults.
