TRIP@WTHS'24 Session A

Mariacristina Calcagno

Mariacristina Calcagno joined TRIP@WTHS’24 as a junior at Masterman High School. She’s always listening to music, enjoys playing the piano and cello, writes for her school newspaper, and is considering a path in public health. For her TRIP project, Mariacristina looked at the effects of adult sleep deprivation and vitamin B6 on larval progeny activity and glucose levels.

Rowan Chetty

Rowan Chetty joined TRIP@WTHS’24 as a sophomore at Conestoga High School. At school, Rowan enjoys learning about biology and chemistry. Outside of the classroom, Rowan is an editor for his school newspaper, The Spoke, and runs cross country and distance track. For his TRIP project, Rowan tested the impact of Ashwagandha and sleep deprivation on fruit fly anxiety and depression.

Sachin Chhaya

Sachin Chhaya joined TRIP@WTHS’24 as a junior at Great Valley High School. Sachin could eat Chipotle for every meal and loves to listen to music. Sachin teaches chemistry and is involved in school clubs such as HOSA and Science Olympiad. Inspired by his sister’s allergies, Sachin researched the long-term effects of epinephrine on the health of fruit flies.

Shloka Kari

Shloka Kari joined TRIP as a junior at Downingtown East High School. Shloka loves to foster dogs, crochet, and play tennis. In school, Shloka’s favorite classes include biology and psychology to understand the hows and whys behind our existence and actions. Outside of school, Shloka is passionate about healthcare and volunteers at her local hospital and ambulance corps and hopes to pursue a career in medicine. For her TRIP project, Shloka investigated whether gut health is connected to female fertility. ​

Victoria Li


Victoria Li joined TRIP as a sophomore at Garnet Valley High School. Outside of TRIP, Victoria loves trying new foods, singing karaoke with her friends, and spending time with the dogs at her local animal shelter. In school, she is part of her Track and Field, Speech and Debate, and Science Olympiad teams. She enjoys working in the lab and has a great curiosity for the field of biochemistry, and she hopes to combine these two interests in pursuing higher education and building a career. For her independent research at TRIP, Victoria studied the effects of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) on female fertility.

Tanzeela Rafe

Tanzeela Rafe joined TRIP as a senior at William Tennent High School. In her free time, Tanzeela enjoys painting, playing tennis and being outdoors. Some of her favorite classes at school include Genetics and Biotechnology, and Physics. For her TRIP project, she tested the impact of Intermittent Fasting and Benadryl on activity levels and progeny health.

Nozima Sultonova

Nozima Sultonova joined TRIP as a sophomore at Central Bucks East High School. Nozima was born in Uzbekistan and moved to the U.S. when she was 8 years old. She loves to read all kinds of books, especially mystery and historical fiction. In her freetime, she enjoys riding bikes and going out with friends. She loves exploring nature, and this is what inspired her to learn about science. For her TRIP experiment, she wanted to determine natural remedies to help cognitive function, so she tested ginger’s effect on memory.

Austin Choi joined TRIP as a junior at Council Rock North High School. Austin loves to listen to music and play volleyball.  In school, Austin’s favorite subjects have always been science classes, with his favorite this year being AP Chemistry.  For his TRIP project, Austin studied the impact of microbiome health on fly activity.

Martie Corcoran joined TRIP@WTHS’24 as a sophomore at William Tennent High School. She loves listening to music, learning about science, and doing arts and crafts. For her TRIP project, she tested the effects of Vitamin B6 and disrupted circadian rhythms on anxiety levels.

Mirai Kambayashi

Mirai (Mimi) Kambayashi joined TRIP as a junior at Conestoga High School. In her spare time, Mirai enjoys golfing and listening to music of all genres. She also enjoys managing her science Instagram account, where she shares interesting facts about certain scientific topics. With this, she spends a lot of time on her phone and computer. Her TRIP project was focused on discovering the effect of blue light on anxiety and future generations, and whether a natural remedy could alleviate these effects.

Caroline Moritz

Caroline Moritz joined TRIP@WTHS’24 as a sophomore at William Tennent High School. Caroline is an avid listener of music, and is an enthusiast of all forms of writing, even dabbling in some of those genres herself. She has a profound interest in mythology, and enjoys exploring the psychology of the human mind, and the brain can create explanations for what is not yet known. For her TRIP project, she sought to determine whether or not Red 40 causes anxiety, and whether or not it could be counteracted with licorice.

Gurnoor Othie joined TRIP@WTHS’24 as a junior at The Baldwin School. She enjoys baking, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Gurnoor’s favorite subject is chemistry, and she aspires to pursue a career in healthcare as a physician-scientist one day. For her TRIP project, she tested the impact of an over-population stressor on fly fertility and fenugreek and shatavari’s ability to counteract the effects.

Ismaeel Qureshi joined TRIP@WTHS’24 as a junior at Unionville High School. Ismaeel enjoys watching basketball, playing the saxophone, and doing crossword puzzles in his free time. He also loves traveling to new places and trying new foods. His favorite classes in school are biology and chemistry, and he hopes to pursue a career in a scientific field one day. For his TRIP project, he sought to determine whether or not Vitamin E could ameliorate the negative effects of Kratom on larval memory.

Amritha Sakamuri

Amritha Sakamuri joined TRIP as a sophomore at Central Bucks High School South. In her spare time, Amritha figure skates for Colonial Figure Skating Club and learns Sangeetham (Indian classical music). With a passion for aiding others and a love for science, Amritha aspires to pursue a career in medicine. For her TRIP project, Amritha tested the effects of  high doses of melatonin and sleep deprivation on female fertility and anxiety.

Phoebe Ting

Phoebe Ting joined TRIP as a junior at Bensalem High School. Phoebe has been swimming since she could walk and is now the captain of her school’s swim team. She is also involved in a variety of activities, such as Mock Trial, Student Government, and Mathletes. She loves scrapbooking, reading, and jamming out to good music! For her TRIP project, Phoebe decided to study the short term and long-term effects of energy drinks on energy levels.
