Howdy! by Bridget Armstrong

Howdy! (Hopefully, like Dr. Purdy has, you’ll know me as the girl who says “howdy.”) I’m Bridget Armstrong and I’m a senior at William Tennent High School. The first thing you should know about me is that I’m very involved in the arts at my school. I’m the editor in chief of Tennent’s literary magazine, The Muse. I helped create
The Muse to provide a home for my peers and I to share our talents, whether it be written, performed, sculpted, or created any other way. I also participate in five different musical groups, where I have played the flute, mellophone, and my beloved french horn (isn’t she gorgeous?). On top of that, I take ceramics classes at school and paint with my free time at home… So you could say I really appreciate the arts.

While I love fine arts, I love science even more. Specifically, I love learning about the brain. Learning about the different ways in which the brain functions and varies across different people fascinates me, and has inspired me to pursue a career in neuroscience. I can’t wait to get my feet wet in the world of research through TRIP and learn with great people.

The first two weeks of TRIP were great! I’ve already made several mistakes and lost flies! Yay! Joking aside, I know that mistakes are bound to be made in the lab. The great part about making them is that I can learn from those mistakes and have a better understanding of how and why my errors change the experiment. The great part about TRIP is that there is a whole team of teaching assistants, instructors, and peers that help me understand. We work as a team to make sure that everyone is on the same page, and we grow as scientists with each other. I love TRIP and I can’t wait to make more mistakes with my session A gang.
