Get To Know Me! by Alex Piven

​Hi! My name's Alex, and I'm a rising senior at Friends Select School in Philadelphia. I first  learned about the TRIP Initiative  through my biology teacher this past year. I have always enjoyed my  science courses, but biology seemed to hone in on my interests of what goes on inside our bodies! (One of the images is of frog cupcakes I brought in for our  end of the year biology party!) I love doing labs in school and decided TRIP was the perfect opportunity to explore this interest in more depth. While I know I want to study biology in college, I haven’t chosen a specific field I want to focus on.

Apart from loving science, another one of my passions is rowing. I joined the crew team at my school in ninth grade and ever since then I have been committed to the sport. What I love about crew is that it pushes me physically and mentally to do my best and persevere through adversity. Over  the  years, I have kept that mindset off the water as well. Some of my other interests include running, watching Netflix, baking, bullet-journaling, and listening to music. This summer I have also enjoyed the time I’ve had to read, travel with my family, and play Rummikub!
