Hello everyone! My name is Charity Robbins, and I am a rising senior at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Sciences. My school is located on Temple’s campus, so I am looking forward to being in a very familiar area this summer. I am very much involved in my school community. I am the President of NHS for the upcoming year, I founded a science club with my Chemistry teacher, and am the team captain of my FTC Robotics club. I also tutor Chemistry, Physics, English, History, and Spanish. One of my greatest passions in life is making STEM more inclusive, and showing my little sister that she can do anything that she puts her mind to. Outside of the classroom I can be found getting boba with friends, watching Glee, obsessing over Hamilton, and most importantly, listening to music.

I was able to learn more about TRIP through volunteering with Dr .Leystra and Dr. Purdy at The Fox Chase Cancer Center this past spring. As an avid learner of science and self proclaimed lover of fruit flies, I just knew that I had to apply! I really enjoy how exciting science is, especially research. In fact, in the future I would like to pursue science. I am passionate about studying medicine and I find outreach programs essential to making science more accessible, so that is something that I would like to explore more in the future as well.
From micro-pipetting to making my own fly food for my introductory project, so many skills have been acquired in such a small amount of time.
Just in the first week of TRIP, I have learned so much! From micro-pipetting to making my own fly food for my introductory project, so many skills have been acquired in such a small amount of time. I really enjoy how much the instructors push us to figure things out on our own. I find that in retrospect, this will help me a lot. I am excited to see what the next couple of weeks has in store for me. I am looking forward to learning more about our natural world with all of my peers and having one of my MANY questions about life answered through my independent research project.
