Something New and Exciting! by Egor Sakhabutdinov

Hey everyone, my name is Egor Sakhabutdinov and I am a senior at CB South (Go Titans!).

At school, I am involved with many clubs such Chem Club, World Affairs Club, and Environmental Club as well as playing in my school’s Wind Ensemble and the Pit Orchestra for our musicals. Outside of school, I just adore playing the piano. Just yesterday, I saw Yuja Wang (my idol) perform the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto and it was an experience like no other. Besides music, I love spending time in the kitchen. Be it baking or cooking, if I find a new recipe I really want to try out, I will not stop thinking about it until the timer says done and I can taste the fruits of my labor. Something about following a recipe and knowing how something will turn out after a series of steps is incredibly fascinating to me. However, there isn't always a recipe at hand, so I’ve also learned to appreciate the mystery of throwing ingredients together and creating something I have never tried before. For me, cooking is like working in the lab, which is why I am beyond excited to participate in TRIP.

I have always loved the sciences and taking (frankly, surviving) courses like AP Chemistry and now breezing through AP Biology. I am pretty dead set on having a STEM career. I had this epiphany at the end of 11th grade. By then, most applications for STEM programs were closed. Going into my last school year and college applications, I was a little nervous about my prospects of getting to major in something I loved at a school of my top choice. I was applying to colleges alongside TRIP, not sure if I would get into either. However, December brought some amazing news and now, I will get to attend one of my top schools and TRIP.

Looking back at the first day of TRIP, it was nothing short of incredible. Getting to meet my peers and instructors who are just as passionate about STEM as me was so fulfilling, and I can’t wait to see what we will all achieve together. Here’s to more days like the first day of TRIP!
