WHAT YOU NEED TO SUBMIT
All application materials are due before 11:59 pm on Sunday March 21, 2021.
Online Application
To apply to the next session of TRIP Initiative, complete the online application and upload a school transcript by following this link: https://forms.gle/3uCZnSgFPgWyF6Wu5. (It is recommended to download and complete the essay portion of the application in a word processing program and then copy/paste your answers into the online application. The essay questions can be downloaded by clicking on button at the bottom of this page.)
If you have a question about how to answer a question or have any technical issues with the online application, please email Dr. Amanda Purdy (tripinitiative@gmail.com). Please use TRIP@TU’21 in the subject line of all emails regarding the 2021 TRIP summer program.
Letters of Recommendation
In addition to completing the online application, applicants must have two letters of recommendation (LOR) submitted on their behalf.
One letter of recommendation must come from your current or former science teacher, (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics, etc.), while the other can come from, but is not limited to, the following individuals: High school administrator (Assistant Principal, Principal, etc.), high school or middle school teacher (math, science, English, art, etc.), coach, counselor, minister or clergy person from your place of worship, and supervisor from a current/previous job, club, or volunteer position.
Letters should: 1) state the length and capacity that the recommender has known the applicant, and 2) contain an assessment of the applicant’s strengths and weakness with specific examples that support participation in the TRIP program. If applicable, letters should be written on official school letterhead.
These documents can be submitted directly by the letter writers by following this link: https://forms.gle/WyGtJK7yVSu42EHYA. Note: LORs should be sent directly by the letter writers NOT by the student. If your writers have trouble submitting documents through the online form, documents may instead be sent to Dr. Amanda Purdy at tripinitiative@gmail.com before 11:59 pm on Sunday March 21, 2021. If letter writers need to email supplemental documents, please ask them to use the subject line: “TRIP@TU’21 Recommendation - APPLICANT’S NAME”.
***When requesting a letter of recommendation, please COPY and PASTE the above “supporting materials” information into your request and give your letter writers a MINIMUM of three weeks to complete your letter.***
Application Review Timeline
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of program staff and alumni at the end of April. Following review, qualifying applicants will interview with program staff in May with final decisions made by May 21, 2021.
